Our Sustainability Promise

At DoubleTree by Hilton Queensferry Crossing, we recognise the influence and impact that our business has on the environment and the communities in which we operate. We are committed to sustainability and to minimising our environmental footprint, while enhancing the wellbeing of our guests, employees and local communities. We are supported in this journey by our sustainability accreditation partner, Green Tourism.

Supporting Our Community

We’re committed to giving back to our community through meaningful initiatives. We’ve planted wildflowers, built a bug hotel, and improved wildlife habitats in our gardens. Through our partnership with DripDrop umbrellas, we plant a tree for every umbrella borrowed.

We support the North Queensferry Historical Society’s walking guide and share local events online. Recent efforts include hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning, supporting the Team Luke Foundation, and promoting “Walk & Talk” to reduce isolation. We also organise beach clean-ups, donate seeds to a local school, and have adopted a WWF penguin to contribute globally.

Environmental Initiatives

Eco-friendly practices are at the heart of what we do. Through Hilton LightStay, our environmental, social, and governance management system, we actively track energy, carbon, water, waste, and efficiency. Our real-time dashboard keeps us informed of our performance and progress, helping us make data-driven improvements.

We’ve conducted a climate change risk assessment and implemented key adaptations, monitoring carbon emissions and energy use while exploring renewable energy sources to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Most of our lighting is LED with automated systems to save energy, and we’ve optimized heating, hot water, and insulation for efficiency.

We use phosphate- and chlorine-free cleaning products, microplastic-safe laundry detergents, and paraben-free toiletries without unsustainable palm oil. Ethical solutions for weeds and pests, food waste reduction targets, and sourcing Fair Trade or ethically labeled products further support our sustainability goals.

Our Team

We believe in providing a safe and healthy workplace for all team members. We are committed to continually improving our business practices and minimising environmental impact. Our team members play a vital role in reducing our footprint by actively participating in sustainability efforts. We actively monitor business and staff travel, encouraging public transport and car-sharing whenever possible. Sustainability is a priority, with an on-site Sustainability Champion and regular training for all team members. Energy and activity targets are reported monthly to our head office to ensure progress.

As gold members of the Mental Health Charter, we provide access to a mental health app and have dedicated policies for mental health, wellbeing, and menopause support. Additionally, our cycle-to-work scheme promotes sustainable commuting options for our team.

Guest Support

Our guests play a critical role in promoting sustainability in our hotel. By making conscious choices during their stay, such as reducing energy and water usage, properly disposing of waste, and using eco-friendly products, guests can help minimise the environmental impact of their stay.

We provide details on local public transport, including bus and train routes, on our website to make getting around easy and eco-friendly. Guests can also access a local walking guide for exploring the area. For guests with electric cars, there are four EV charging points at the nearby Ferrytoll car park.

Our recycling policy is available via a QR code, and we encourage sustainability with signage in all bedrooms promoting towel reuse.

Your Feedback

We value guest feedback and input in driving innovative ideas to reduce the environmental impact of our hotel. We encourage our guests to send feedback to each venue, sharing their ideas and suggestions for reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting sustainable practices. By working together with our guests, we can continue to build a sustainability program that provides guests with the flexibility and freedom to stay in a way that aligns with their values and preferences, while also contributing to a more sustainable future.
